The 200th Episode of Stargate SG-1

It’s not that hard to believe but this is an achievement worth mentioning. Stargate SG-1 will air it’s 200th episode tonight on SciFi at 9PM. The show will become the longest-running science-fiction series, beating the X-Files‘ 202 episodes as the current tenth season unfolds. Let’s not forget about the spin-off series Stargate Atlantis witch is airing it’s third season. This means the original Stargate movie (1994) spawned a total fourteen seasons.

On a weaker note the ratings of this year’s show have suffered an important drop. We’re talking about something like 20% of it’s audience. Can it be because the hit success Battlestar Galactica is not airing until fall? Or is it that rival networks got better shows to watch? Or is it that the fans had enough of Stargate for one lifetime. It’s hard to tell because we must keep in mind that the new episodes air only on Scifi, specialised channel and that we must still consider international viewers that cannot see the new episodes until they go in syndication (creates a one year delay before a show airs outside of the United States). Still it’s a day to celebrate, cheers to the Stargate crew that must of had a lot of fun filming the 200th episode; fandom favorite similar to the 100th Wormhole X-treme.
