iPod Nano: Remastered

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

The news is not so hot anymore but I still think I need to mention it. Last Tuesday (12/09/2006) was the day were Apple decided to bring all attention to itself by releasing a bunch of new toys. As it is a custom for the iPod line they improved the software and updated iTunes to sell movies. This makes Apple a major distributor of music, tv shows, podcasts and now movies. I remember talking about the arrival of the iPod Nano witch I found to be a great upgrade from the ridiculous iPod Shuffle.

New colorful iPod Nano

The new Nanos come in five colors; legacy of the iPod Minis and the Shuffle has been down-sized to become the worlds smallest MP3 player (1GB). Set aside that I grown to hate the concept of iTunes and iPod because of their non-replaceable batteries and their restricted format I salute their brand. I mean they always come with great ways to promote their products and Apple has raised in popularity ever since. You see how cool this picture looks? Have a look at the same add in motion Quicktime format and you’ll be blown away.

The term MP3 player is now slowly starting to be replaced by iPod by kids in my neighborhood. Anyhow, they announced better battery life, higher capacity of storage, gapless playback, brighter screen, thinner size. To sum up the event Steve Jobs introduced the upcoming iTV, code name of a box that will allow you to stream the contents of your iTunes library to your TV (HD preferably), means that the new content of the iTunes Store is not limited to your iPod and computer anymore.

Galactica Returns

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

The hit series Battlestar Galactica was moved out of it’s regular summer release and will air October 6th 9PM/8c. The third season will explore an all new dynamic in the Cylon versus Humans war because the Humans are now under Cylon occupation. To sum up what happened last season, President Gaius Baltar made the survivors of the colonies settle on a new home planet they named New Caprica. For some reason this planet was the perfect hiding spot from Cylons because of high interference in that solar system (they had stumbled on it by luck). However the explosion of a massive nuclear weapon in orbit of the planet created a shockwave that was picked up by the Cylons about one light year away. Now this explains why everyone had a lot of time to settle down and that when the Cylons arrived there was no way to run as they could do in the past.

The SCIFI network, owned by NBC was so proud of the ratings of it’s TV show that they decided to move it to the fall season to compete with other networks hit series. Because of the extended gap between season two and season three Scifi started releasing webisodes called The Resistance. They air twice a week and they’re a few minutes each (3 to 5), there will be ten in total and they will create a momentum to the season three premiere. They are available online on scifi.com for US residents only. Be sure not to miss the return of one of the greatest television series of our time.

Shooting in a Montreal School

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

dawson_1.gifThis news is really creeping me out. Around noon today a mad shooter opened fire in Dawson’s College. They count one dead and many wounded, eight considered critical. From the information given by the media and witnesses the white male around his 19s started shooting in the schools cafeteria.

It’s been confirmed that the shooter was taken down by the police as he was in a kind of killing spree. Those shootings are not to common, especially here in Canada. I’m outraged that it did happen. I’m just glad that the situation was controlled by the authorities and thanks to their intervention many lives were saved today.

When ever I was looking to the videos and pictures depicting the event I came across this picture of students comforting each other. That single image struck me, the emotion and feel of the tragedy. Let’s pray that such a thing never happens again; if you’ve got issues take some time and visit a professional. Suicide and mass murder are not the only option you stupid peace of sh*t. Censoring myself is only a way for me to tell that this is really how I feel because usually I would simply rephrase to avoid any kind of cursing or crude language. When I was in High School I did consider going to Dawson College (wasn’t undecided for long), but life got me elsewhere.

Eureka

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

EurekaI meant to write about this show for some time but never got around knowing if I liked it or not. Obviously, since I’ve been watching every episode I can tell I like it now. The show is about a small town called Eureka and the arrival of a new sheriff in town. Nick Carter and his daughter were in a surprise to discover that this town is composed essentially of geniuses. What drives the show is uncovering mysteries, plots, secrets; what ever you call it. It’s funny, not a comedy but it puts a smile on your face. Now because the show plays on SCIFI and we’ve got the most brilliant minds of the United States we’re bound to see some high tech stuff. There is an extra spin concerning the major company running Eureka and developing military projects in level 5. Now most everything within the previous levels will end up being used a commodities in a near future; holograms, performance enhancers, flying cars and such. As for what is “top” secret they are taking their sweet time to uncover it, along with some kind of conspiracy (murder, trickery, manipulation) plotted by the town’s psychologists. The show airs on Tuesdays and nine episodes were released already.

Casino Royale: Bond Reborn

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

Let’s start it this way, I’ve never been a huge fan of James Bond but I always appreciated and enjoyed the movies. I’ve been raised in the era were Pierce Brosnan was the only one I respected as James Bond but I did learn to respect Sean Connery and his predecessors in the older 007 movies.

Daniel Craig and a gun

When they had announced that a new James Bond movie with Daniel Craig I had my doubts. When the teaser was out I did feel this movie would be different, considering the choice for the title and the fact that they would turn it down a notch on the high tech gadgets. You know what? Now that I just the real trailer I have a great feeling about this movie. I never went to see a James Bond movie in the theaters before and now I think this one will be my first. If you have any kind of love for action movies and gambling go watch the newest trailer on Moviefone. This movie has it all and considering the fall season at the movies this one will come on top of the box office (at least). For the quality will have to wait for Casino Royale until it hits theaters November 17th.

Final Fantasy XII

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

Final Fantasy XII PS2 Cover Art I’m back a long vacation from blogging. My news has been known from some time but getting closer to the launch date is a great opportunity to talk about it. The title of this post and the picture shown on the left are not misleading. Final Fantasy XII is coming pretty soon to North America. The official release date is October 31st 2006. Forget about Halloween this year, the greatest RPG series in history will keep the kids inside and people like myself playing it. I did not take time to look for all the details concerning the plot, the story will be good or amazing as usual and it will involve saving the world from certain doom. The eye catcher of this twelfth installment is that just like for Final Fantasy XI they decided to innovate a bit. The previous game was playable online as a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) witch created an immersing gaming experience similar to Guild Wars, Matrix Online or the successful World of Warcraft. I did not get the chance to play it because I hate the fact that you need to pay a monthly subscription to access the online service (Guild Wars were successful at now having any fees besides the purchase of the games “cheers”).

Final Fantasy XII will revisit a world previously introduced in the Final Fantasy mythology and for more information, videos, pictures or complete previews please visit Gamespot’s page on the subject.
