Battlestar Galactica Season 3 finale

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

It’s like it’s been only yesterday that we were set in a New Caprica occupied by the Cylons. The third season of Battlestar Galactica arrived to an end last Sunday. I haven’t got to write about the series in a long time but it’s still very close to my heart, along side the Stargate and Heroes. This series has always been a roller coaster ride of emotions, action and scifi goodness. The finale met my expectations for the series to return to it’s root and surprise us at every turn. The promos leading to the conclusion of Baltar’s trial and the reveal of the final five Cylons. Oh yes! You heard right, there are even more Cylons that even the models we know now don’t know about! I have to say this cliff hanger is much more soothing than the end of first season where the life of one of our protagonist was at sake.

Now for the one liners recaps, Baltar is freed for his accusations as Lee pleads that the trial is built on emotion and that many in the fleet made mistakes before and were all forgiven but him. Gaeta is really turning it to be bitter as he lied on the stance about Gaius signing a death warrant. The really good part is when they make a jump to a new system where they are to find yet an other clue to get to Earth.
Earth in Crossroads, Part 2
What’s that? Florida you say? No way they can’t get to Earth so fast, hopefully it’s just a shot and it doesn’t mean what you think. At best we can say that it does exist and it’s not just one big joke. All I can say that you are surprised and shock by who end up being the final five Cylons and how they react to it. Remember after Boomer realized she was a Cylon? Kinda of assasain waiting to be unleashed. It’s going to take 10 months before we get more answers, if you haven’t seen the finale yet you better find a way to see it, it was brilliant.

Transformers Wallpaper

Transformers WallpaperI just discovered today a new set of posters for the upcoming movie Transformers.
I was quite intrigued by the teaser they had months ago and got even a deeper interest after the second trailer blew me away. I edited this picture so that it can be used as a wallpaper for anyone who doesn’t have a widescreen desktop. You have no idea how hard it is these days to get a decent wallpaper that fits nicely on the desktop, no distortion, no cropping. I do the job for myself and share it with you. To get the original refer to Michael Bay’s blog for the full resolution picture. The counter says there is less than 100 days before the release of the movie, this summer will be hot when Transformers comes out July 4th 2007.

I’m a Mac, I’m a PC… I’m Linux

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

When an idea gets momentum, you either go against the wave and make something new, or you jump on it and improve yourself. By now I’m sure you’ve seen the Mac vs PC ads that have been promoting Apple products for months. You might of even seen a spoof version comparing the PS3 and the Wii. But now Novell will try to make everyone realize that Linux is an other player that requires to be discovered. Just like the Mac it’s for a different style of user and it’s finally ready to be deployed to the world. Here is the ad in question:

However, I’m starting to feel that the joke is getting old and I don’t enjoy it as much as the first time. They better figure out something better for next time.

Pirates of the Caribbean 3

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
The third and last (who knows for sure) adventure of our favorite pirate Jack Sparrow will be coming to a theater near you May 25, 2007. The first movie was quite a surprise since I had never given it much though, nor hype. The sequel that was released last year made quite a bang by being one of the most successful box office in all time.

After seeing both movies I had little expectations over the final piece. That was until I saw the trailer for the third! Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End seems to be of epic proportions. I’ve been waiting for this trailer for months asking myself why should I be interested in seeing the third movie.

They’ve got this nice Pirate Player (a total rip-off from YouTube’s success) but I guess it’s the best official way to get you to see the trailer right away. I am now a believer, despite the disappointment left by Dead Man’s Chest I will want to see the next one in theaters. Even if I doubt it will be a similar success at the box office. Leave your comments about the trailer here, or see it in HD glory at Yahoo! Movies.

300 Review

Monday, March 12th, 2007

There is much to say about the newest adaptation of Frank Millers’ work. 300 is simply put the story of three hundred Spartan warriors that will stand against the armies of the Persian Empire. Lead by their King, Leonidas and despite the odds they will march to glory and face their oppressors in battle. THIS IS SPARTA!
King Leonidas, 300 That line is one of the strong simple one liners you will find in the movie. There is a fair share of blood and naked skin through the entire movie and these warriors, few in numbers, are a concentrate of men power, warrior skills and muscles. The world-wide release is estimated to have gathered $76,225,000 in it’s first week-end. Many movies made the list of box office smash but not all of them are that good and worth a while.

However the movie was well balanced and it reminded me of Gladiator. I won’t hide it, the ending was bitter as you can expect (story wise) but the visuals alone were worth the money. You feel like they took the time to edit every single shot, it’s polished, gory and is in line with Sin City. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s really a must see and is appropriate to a very large screen. The movie will appeal to both male and female audience; there are good conclusions to draw from this story. Very inspiring. I’ll give it a 9 out of 10 or something.
Immortals, 300

LittleBigPlanet: Impressive!

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

LittleBigPlanetI think I’m allowed to say that I love having great expectations over a product, but most of all I love being surprised! Today Phil Harrison presented a demo of an upcoming game for the PS3 called LittleBigPlanet. It’s an other step in the social engineering behind the PlayStation Home; you are these little creatures that can fool around in a completely flexible world. You get to create your own levels and share them over the network. It’s based of physics and the world you involve in can be really creative. This brings user generated content to the front seat and I guess saves developers the time to create levels. It’s a bit unfair, but I’ll have to admit I wasn’t feeling it at all, a bit like a flOw vibe, where you fool around and take it easy. But this games adds extra fun to any party, whether it would be online or if you have a bunch of friends over.

PlayStation 3: Home

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

pshome_embed.jpgAll the players are now in the arena and the battle of the gaming consoles is far from over. It is true that the price tag of the PS3 has been facing serious criticism from the start but I still think that this gaming platform is way cool. I’ve been finding it hard to find a good reason to love the PlayStation 3, but I guess that from time to time their future looks a bit brighter. Today at GDC (Game Developers Conference), Phil Harison announced the PlayStation Home would be the online answer the PlayStation Network would have to Microsoft’s Xbox Live, and Nintendo’s Mii.

The most coherent analogy to PlayStation Home would be the well known Second Life; you get an avatar, character that you design to your likings, to evolve in a virtual space where you can meet friends, show off trophies and do a ton of interactive stuff. The keynote showed the ability to view trailers and movies from within the virtual environment, basically you got your character and a TV in it’s apartment, watching a trailer. Words cannot do full justice to Sony’s latest innovation; watch listen to the nice lady and be amazed, I’m sure impressed by what they pulled out of the hat.

Heroes: Parasite

Chapter 18 - Parasite

A new exciting chapters of NBC’s new hit show Heroes was unveiled. There is some cheating involved in my review because as a Canadian viewer I got to see the show last night at 9PM (Global) and it will air on NBC only tonight for US residents. The past few weeks of the show have been the most intense of the bunch and I wondered for how long they could keep pumping the adrenaline like thins. Reading my previous posts concerning the show will let you know that I’ve been swept off my feet every week since this story was unfolded. Beware of some spoilers in the following of this post.

This episode, formerly known as “Like Any Parasite” was advertised as the one where we would finally see the face of Mr. Linderman, a name associated with the mystery since the very first episode, and unveiling his identity did not help simplify the story because they didn’t loose any time introducing new elements. Let’s take for example Claire that decides running away and hiding is not her piece of cake, she decides to part with the Haitian and try to find Peter Petrelli. But little she knows that Peter and Isaac are in over their head with the incident with a certain gun that left one of the story’s main character for dead. HRG’s story line takes a bad twist as he is left with no memories of where Claire could be, but “the company” keeps a very close eye on him and his family. In addition, Hiro gets to find the sword (not a replica this time) and he meets back with Ando in the most surprising television magic twist I’ve seen!

Mohinder, Zane aka Sylar and Peter get together for some tea and everyone gets their share of revenge over past events. Yet again, the previews spoke true words. “An other one of those incredible endings”. We’re getting closer to a Winter Finale as the season will take a second break before concluding the first season, also called Volume One by Tim Kring, creator of the series. Chapter 18 was not the most heart pumping episode, but the story keeps drawing you back in.

One last note; in show advertisement is so funny. Micah and Jessica are playing a video game and it happens to be Heavenly Sword on the PS3, and yes; you get a good look at the game console!
