Sanctuary

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

When stumbled upon the news yesterday I did not know what Sanctuary was all about. All I needed to know to grab my attention was to see that this Internet based TV series starred Amanda Tapping. The show seems to be centered around a web community where you can get involved in creating the series that uses “stunning visual effects, video game technology and cutting edge web design”. Their website lauched at SanctuaryForAll.com and it was advertised to have an all new trailer available. If you want to see it in it’s full HD glory you’ll need to signup for a account to download or view the trailer but thanks to YouTube you can get a quick glimpse of the trailer right here, right now. First up a bunch of screenshots, then the trailer. What to look for; more Stargate cast member, a few monsters here and there, gun fire and a lot of fighting. Imagine a mix of Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Torchwood all at once. Enjoy!

Prison Break Finale: Sona

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

I have to say that the finale for season two of Prison Break, breaks my heart. I’ll get on with some of the things I’ve been looking at for the past few weeks. I don’t feel the same vibe there was in the first season, I saw the show going into a very strange direction. I like the way Michael handle things, how he planned everything and how his plan to escape slowly unfolded. I also thought he was pretty good to react to new situations where he had nothing planned. All this is very good until now, but I’ve been annoyed by the jumps and hoops they need to go through all the time, he’s free, but she’s guilty, he’s got proof but the proof dies or is not valid. What I though to be brilliant at first, a conspiracy theory is just starting to get in the way of the story.

Prison Break: Sona

I’ll go ahead and say that Sona is the worse cliff hanger I could of imagined for a series like Prison Break. There has been some rumors over the Internet that the series might get a new name for the third season but as the final episode unfolded you started to see that the characters are all being stacked in a Panamanian prison. The good thing, the only thing that saved the episode for me is when I saw the name of the prison Mahone and Scofield where sent to: Sona. It’s been mentioned earlier in the episode by the “mute” man, the one who seems to be giving orders concerning “the company’s” business. I should be happy the season came to an end but I really don’t see how they can crank back the show to what made it great in the first place. For the love of God, how can you end a season with your main character walking in the unknown bathed in a white light! You don’t know what’s happening and you have little room to speculate on theories…

In the end, season is no where as good as the first season was and I never expected the show to even last this long. I really thought they would escape at episode 13 of season 1, they got this far and for this I salute them!

Eragon Review

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Eragon PosterAfter all this time I’ve finally got around to see Eragon, the most I can say is that I expected more. I can’t say it was a bad movie only that I did not have much thrill while watching it. My initial impression was the right one from the start. It had a lot of potential but accomplished very little. It don’t know if it was because of bad timing at the box office but I remember reading that it was not a success as expected. None the less, Box Office Mojo reports over $243 million word wide (with 70% of it from over seas).
I will agree that with a budget of a $100 million they could of done better, but from that angle it does look much different from what Superman Returns managed. Overall the story ended with the clear intention to continue the story. It’s what they call a coming of age when this young farm boy is called to accomplish is destiny and save the kingdom from an evil king. He is the last of the dragon riders and is bound to it, he is also empowered with magics he can use to fight the forces of evil. In this movie the antagonist is focused on a black magician referred as The Shade. This pretty nasty character is the penultimate goal to conquer, he ends up giving hope to the resistance.
When it comes to a sequel I would be more than happy that they end up making it (guess I’m too lazy to pick up the books), I’ll give Eragon a 7 out of 10. The visual effects where quite interesting and I really liked the dragon, nothing like the ones seen in Reign of Fire. The DVD was released March 20th 2007.

Idiocracy

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

actors_idiocracy.jpgLet’s talk about a movie that takes a look at politics with a twist. Imagine all the science fiction shows you’ve seen in the past years and think about how technology could improve our lives and how spectacular things would be; flying cars, teleportation and advanced medicine. Now picture that mental image you just created is shattered in a million pieces and the future will only be dumber than what it is now. I’ve seen this movie a few weeks ago but never found the courage to write about it. I am no fan of stupid comedies. And the idea behind the movie is prone to controversy. However, when the same week TWiT #90 gave it an honorable mention.

In a sense it goes off this way (I’m not the one making this up), the high IQ people are the ones having less children and all your average Joe and Jane are having more kids they can handle. Their “idiocracy” is passed on genetically and we end up generations later in a world where everything is dumbed down to the lowest minimum. Many systems are automated with inputs that look like a toy for a 5 year old. They even garden the crops with a sports drink and can’t figure out why plants stopped growing. The fun factor is when a military officer is enrolled in an experimental program to freeze him for one year. However the hibernation system goes wrong, the project is closed and forgotten. The pods end up in a big dumpster. The protagonists are released thanks to a garbage avalanche a few hundred years later. I’ll avoid giving a score to Idiocracy, if you like comedies in the line of White Chicks, Scary Movie and Date Movie you will tolerate this one. Not that it’s in any form better then the ones stated now.

April Fools’ Day

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

A word of advice for anyone looking at a website today. They will make you believe anything and you’ll be a fooled by very credible sources. Google, CNET, Digg and many others. I remember when I was younger, we used to make fishes and stick it in the back of a teacher. Hoping he would not notice. But I knew they felt all those weird hugs on their backs… Today if you fool around, be sure not to be mean and always get back to the fooled and tell them it was a joke… pretty overwhelming trust me.
