Bioshock

I’m not sure how far I am into the game but I can tell you I enjoy very much. I got into it because a friend of mine was praising the game so much I had to give it a try. As soon as the demo came out on the PC and done trying it, my mind was set to purchase the game. Even if it is classified as a first person shooter (FPS) it is truly “genetically evolved”. Aside the classic melee weapons, shotgun, and pistol you get to use Plasmids. These injections allow you to use powers like fire, electricity, telekinesis and many more. The design of the game is beautiful and the art direction really made it look as if you we’re in the 60s. You get to loot items off enemies but also to buy items with the money you found or took off corpses. The game is set in the city of Rapture we’re every bit of the utopia it was meant to be has gone wild. The abusive use of gene modification drove everyone to madness and you as a sole survivor of your plane crash have to fight your way into safety.

Bioshock

There has been a lot of talk about DRM issues that crippled the game and even anti-virus software that detected it as a virus. Just yesterday AVG locked out my Bioshock and I had to swap to a avast! instead. I feel bad that users are the ones who have to live with all the trouble. People who pirate the game probably has a seamless experience as soon as they crack the games protection. Anyhow I’m still enjoying the game and haven’t felt as much tension in a game before. Those Big Daddies are fierce enemies and those little sisters are really creepy. You have the choice to harvest them to get maximum reward but if your heart is in the right place you will save them and still be rewarded in other ways. I must state that this game is still rated M for mature and even adults should be cautious due to the extreme gore and violence. I strongly suggest you at least try the demo if you PC can run it. You might fall in love with the experience.

Superbad

I knew this movie was going to be vulgar and obscene. But I got the feeling from the previews that it would be really funny. If you did not appreciate the American Pies and films of this sort you will not have a good time at the movies by seeing this movie. Opposed to it’s predecessors this movie made me laugh but at the same time had a very nice message. Those two kids ending high school ready to go to college, wanting to hit it on with a girl for the last party of the year and failing terribly at everything.

Superbad

As far as the story line goes the main characters are thrown into situations out of the ordinary. The usual underage teens using fake IDs to buy alcohol and end up being chased by a duo of cops that would not make the profession proud. In fact these two cops are still teens at heart ready to party and really abuse their position of authority. Best friends who stick together, getting to live life without all the stereotypes teens are usually stuck with. I found that movie charming in a very weird way. You’ll laugh out loud if you can stomach stupid movies but at least you can see past that and enjoy a great story telling and well performing actors.

Sunshine

After seeing the trailer for this movie I knew I had to see it. I think I was alienated by the setting and the point the movie was trying to make. The movie is set in a not too distant future when the Sun is dying. Earth is enveloped in a long winter and humanity is slowing dying. A team is sent on the Icarus II to deliver an explosive payload to restart the Sun. The first mission failed under unknown circumstances and they are the very last hope to save Earth and it’s inhabitants. The crew has been traveling for many months and they clearly understand that it might be a one way trip. Their food supplies are plenty and they have internal gardens that provide food and oxygen. However the unexpected discovery of the original Icarus sets them off course and a few mistakes but the whole mission at risk.

That is not much of a review but the movie is quite good. I was surprised by how much action and peril the characters were in. I could relate with the characters very quickly and the decisions they have to make. All the hard choices we’re all facing in our lives. From the trailer you had the impression everything would turn bad and many characters would die. But you still have a feel of fulfillment. You feel that all they’re going through is worth something. The movie might still be in theaters but I would suggest you to rent it as soon as it comes out on DVD.
