Dexter – Season 1

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

I just wrapped up watching the first season of Dexter. Thanks to some well deserved free time from the Holidays I’ve been able to see through the 12 episodes and will admit that it was much more interesting to me then I had originally anticipated. Sometimes they say seeing is believing and if you get the chance to watch the show you’ll get the vibe.

Dexter Title

Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is a blood spatter analyst working for the Miami Police. But that doesn’t stop him to express his real personality from time to time as he is a serial-killer. The story surrounding the character is very intriguing and throughout the show you are lead to see life through the eyes of a killer. Now who wants a bad guy for a main character? Like he tells us, Dexter has standards, his father taught him well, helped him grow up with the desire to kill but to channel it for the greater good. Following the code a Harry (his fater), Dexter only kills the worse criminals that go though the net of the justice system. He’s a bit different from a vigilante because he has that need to kill.

Shadow of the Colossus

I just finished this game and I can say it was a pretty impressive experience. This game was released in 2005 and has gotten pretty good reviews and had felt the need to see what all the praise was about.

Shadow of the Colossus

The game play is pretty interesting, you walk around a world populated by sixteen monsters. Most of them are giant, several stories high. You must defeat them all in order to ressurected your fallen love. Thanks to the help of Agro, your horse, you roam around a cursed land with a light sword that points the direction to the next Colossus. These creatures have specific weeks points you must discover and attack to bring them down. The game is not too long, about 11 hours and it’s part of the Greatest Hits collection. If you get to play it for a really cheap price or to rent it’s really worth a while. The fighting requires multiple steps and you have to be ingenious enough to figure out how to bring down those monsters. Imaging having to solve puzzles in real time as you battle a monster that can kill you pretty quickly. It’s really a case of a mouse trying to bring down an elephant.

The music score and the visuals a decent considering it’s a PlayStation 2 game, and at the time it was pushing the graphics of the PS2 to it’s limits. Fun and quick anyone would enjoy.

Naruto

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

It’s been a while since I’ve been drawn to an anime, I feel like all the right shows that were out there have all ended (and have been reviewed). There was this friend of mine who was always over-hyped about this show and I never got the appeal. I didn’t appreciate the visual style and though it was just an other story where a kid has to save the world from some evil. Of course what is best out there is mostly a re-hash of old ideas but I’ve become a fan of Naruto just after seeing one episode.

Naruto

I was lucky to see episode number five on YTV, thanks to it I’ve decided I had to follow the show and I can say that for a series that has 220 episodes I had very few deceptions. The anime is derived from the manga of the same name and despite the use of many filler episodes the story line remained steady and focused on the development of many characters.

The story’s main character is called Naruto Uzumaki, he is a child coming of age and training to become a Ninja (Shinobi), he’s really the type you would consider hyper-active, never listening in class and very hard headed. Thanks to his perseverence and determination he manages to pass all the challenges to come between him and become the next Hokage (chief of the village). As an infant the spirit of a demon (Nine Tails Fox) was sealed into his body in order to save the village. However, while growing up many people resented him because he had this evil within him. He never let it get to him, he made friends and became a full fledge Ninja. What I like about most anime is the fantasy aspect of it. Ninjas have special abilities that involve spiritual energy called Chackras. The episode progression can be slow at times, but battling against the odds and coming on top is always a gratifying experience. The show was so successful that it sprung three movies and a second series called Naruto Shippuden was started to pursue the adventures of Naruto as he becomes a teenager.

If you get the chance to see the show don’t miss out on it. They sure made me a fan.

Today is the first big snow storm. It's in a day like this I'd like to be a fire-bender.
