Dexter – Season 1

I just wrapped up watching the first season of Dexter. Thanks to some well deserved free time from the Holidays I’ve been able to see through the 12 episodes and will admit that it was much more interesting to me then I had originally anticipated. Sometimes they say seeing is believing and if you get the chance to watch the show you’ll get the vibe.

Dexter Title

Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is a blood spatter analyst working for the Miami Police. But that doesn’t stop him to express his real personality from time to time as he is a serial-killer. The story surrounding the character is very intriguing and throughout the show you are lead to see life through the eyes of a killer. Now who wants a bad guy for a main character? Like he tells us, Dexter has standards, his father taught him well, helped him grow up with the desire to kill but to channel it for the greater good. Following the code a Harry (his fater), Dexter only kills the worse criminals that go though the net of the justice system. He’s a bit different from a vigilante because he has that need to kill.

At first the show reminded me of a mix of CSI and Nip/Tuck, because it is very graphic (gallons of blood) and it involves investigation of different crime scenes. The first season focuses on a different serial-killed labeled as “the ice truck killer” who cuts his victims in pieces and wraps them to expose in public places. I don’t want to tell much more if you haven’t seen the show but the work of Dexter is going to get much more complicated througout the season. There is a lot of interesting character developpement and my favorite part is the way Dexter fakes human interactions that he maintains them as a mask to hide the monster that lives within him.

Dexter

I’m very much looking forward the second season, and knowing it has been renewed for a third season is a great news. Still leaving you spoiler-less, I’ll dare say that there a very nice twists througout the show and the finale is no short of big surprises. Being a psychology student I take a great deal of interest in character interactions and psychopathology is a very interesting subject, won’t dare analysing Dexter (wouldn’t want anything bad happening to me ;-) ). Find a way to see the show, if you can’t stomach investigation shows I assure you it goes away from the basic CSI style and the character is very clever, made reminded me why I loved Prison Break so much. Being a genius is good for any kind of situation.
