Down the Drain

Screaming Face PaintingI haven’t posted about myself or about my work situation in ages. Mostly because I don’t believe it to be that interesting or note worthy. When I started this blog I saw it as an online diary that could keep track of my different impressions of what ever happens in the world. Lately I’ve been focusing on reviewing a bunch of stuff but not really for the sake of pouring my heart out. Mostly trying to drive traffic to the blog. Hoping to make a few pennies. I’m a die hard optimist most of the time and if I have the blues I can dismiss it after good night sleep… Right now I feel there is some foreshadowing coming from the 40s crisis that men tend to have (when they reach their 40s). Questioning my career choices and decisions, trying to make a living, valuing your qualities and proving yourself shouldn’t take such a toll on me. But they do… and it down right sucks. One day your in a perfect spot, not really thinking ahead or what tomorrow may hold. You believe in destiny, and somehow God has a plan for you, a way to be meaningful… until the day you realize you might have to wait longer than expected. You’re starting to loose confidence in your ability to keep your head above the water. You think you’re skilled but there is always that other one that beats you to the punch. You can’t be number one, and you sure can’t be in the top 10 either. I’ll be 22 next month and I get the feeling I’ve wasted so much time not doing the right things so far. Realizing this now might be a blessing or a curse who knows… Eat, sleep, play is not that different from Commute, work, sleep. For now I’m longing for the latter option.

MS Office 2007

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

It’s the first time I take some time to talk about this product but I’ve had access to it since last summer. I got the beta of Microsoft Office 2007 around the same time I got my Vista Beta 2. I had installed in on that system but wasn’t using it as a mainstream application. When I got an email from Microsoft saying that my beta key would expire at the end of March I said to myself I had to give it more credit and put OpenOffice aside for a few weeks. So I did it, I’ve been using Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint 2007 for a few weeks and found it quite pleasent. People feared the new Ribbon interface was going away from the classic toolbar view. At first, it was very confusing but I quickly learned to appreciate the new ease of use it provided me. I’m running the Beta 2 Technical Refresh and it’s actually 95% functional, the only problem I’m still running into is that I can’t correct the misspelled instances, it does point them out with red or green underlining but when I select the correction from the contextual menu it does not change it to my selection. So for now I have to manually correct my mistakes. This has clearly been fixed in the final version.

Microsoft is setting the score straight just like it’s doing with Vista by bringing us new features and look by keeping what made their products work in the first place. You get a good balance between the ease of use and the in-depth options you can access with their applications. I’m a student, a free version is always welcome and they provide a lower cost edition for these type of situations.

Every semester I reach the point where I know I’ve been slacking and I got a pile of work. I usually realize it during the last weeks of school and have to rush for my papers and tests. This year I realized it only two weeks after starting school! Is it good, is it bad; not sure because this means I’m already late in my work. On the other hand now that I know it so early in the semester I can speed up and focus on my homework. Now there is my blog taking about 10 minutes of my life per day (lets say one hour per week). Then there is school with 12 hours of classes (you need to add 2 study hours for every in-class time) and on top of that I have to work 20 hours a week.

As much as I feel competent to do all this, succeed every where and still find time to have fun my obligations are not easy on me. I have to start thinking about working out, since my teenage hood seems over I must compensate. So yes I’m overloading this weekend but after a good night sleep I believe I can plan my week and catch up. Hopefully still be alive this Friday!

That time of the year

Tuesday, August 16th, 2005

Nope it’s not Christmas yet, it’s Back to School. Got my schedule yesterday and it just does add up to my work schedule I might have to quit but I’ll try to make adjustements on both sides. Funny thing happened today big system problem so the computers were down for some time, and the clients were pissed as always. I survived, for my first week of part-time I’m surprised to be asked so many times for overtime, considering they still owe me five hours… Anyways for the new school year we might see an update of the blog design a new features added to make it more appealing and interesting. (Trust me, I’m starting back the daily issue as of today!)

**Song of the day: Simple Plan – Untitled**
Hi! Working so much lately I can’t find enought time to write on the blog, I’ve got my hand on the long talked about Black & White, it’s actually the first time I ever play that game. I love it, tryed to do some evil stuff my yummy inside fought it so I’m still good…for now anyways.
So still watching Scifi Friday every week, renting DVDs at the library, and working full time. School is starting back on 22nd (August) and I don’t know yet what will happen for my job… guess I have to wait and see my schedual. Just an advice for everyone, if you ever call customer service anywhere, be brief and don’t be arrongant they’re really there to help you out, so don’t act stupid. Cheers! By the way Michalle Jean will be the next governor general of Canada. Source:National Post (Canadian Press)

Just A Little Bit

Monday, July 25th, 2005

So little time, so much to do! Working on a redesign of one of my websites, working full time for Bell Mobility. Over 40 minutes to get to the job since it’s near place Vertu now. I’ll have to cherish thoses little moments when I can listen to some music bouncing my head carelessly typing in my blog, and perhaps be late for work ;)

By the way, I’ve seen a movie last night and was really impressed, it’s call Treed Murray (Entre l’Arbre et l’Écorce) starring David Ewlett and Kevin Duhaney. This 2001 movie makes you think of Panic Room! The character Murray is trapped by a gang and has to hide in a tree, but this movie has serious attitude, they really fight it of for 24 hours!! This movie is really serious it’s been nominated for 5 Genie Awards. It’s really a thriller because they mess with his life and he’s determined not to go down. Every line he throws at the is as powerfull and vicious as a punch in the face. The is real emotion in this “canadian” film. It sure comes in my elite movie collections. It’s a must see!

Zipping through the summer

Thursday, July 21st, 2005

I really wonder if ants work this much, 41 hours a week and plus. That’s long and I can hardly believe I’m doing this much and still find time to watch loads of DVD. I might be pushing it a bit though yesterday I slept extra hours when coming from the job. When I think about it there is only on month left before I go back to cegep for one last semester then it’s University. I really don’t know how I’m supposed to handle all this work… picture that I have two jobs and I’m going to have seven classes. Working part time is an option but that would mean less time to study… I don’t know what to do, I really like my new job and don’t want to quit it just a month after starting it’s kind of stupid. But someone has to do what’s right and I’ll have to think about it.

For you guys who read me from time to time I’ll try to bring you breaking and interesting news more often :)

Update on my life?

Wednesday, July 6th, 2005

I guess I haven’t been doing my job properly lately. I haven’t written deep posts lately, I guess I don’t have a lot of time. So here is a small update of some stuff I’ve done recently.

Well, here we go! I’ve got new speakers, it’s not much a 2.1 Logitech system but it’s so much better than my 7 year old-first computer-2 watt speakers.

I have started a formation in a second job for customer service. It’s for Bell Mobility, the training is for three weeks and the first week is 5:30PM to midnight. Let’s hope I enjoy this work, it really looks great.
