I must get all my due for being right about the PSP redesign, a lot of people said it would come. It has been in the rumor stage for months and was confirmed earlier this year at E3. The only thing is that the world had to wait until September to get their hands on it. When it comes to Sony gaming products I’ve been a fan of their redesigns and can say that for the PSOne and PS2 found my money well invested. When it comes to portable gaming I’ve never been a huge fan of it. I mean, the last thing I had is the original Game Boy, I had three games for it; Tetris, Donkey Kong and Pokemon Blue.

The reason I conveinced myself to purchase a PlayStation Portable is because of the games. I wanted to play Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. I want to enjoy God of War: Chains of Olympus and Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core coming out next year. The price was good and the money was there. But after 10 days I can say that I haven’t got a lot of time to play with it (to play at all; remember Bioshock… not done yet).

The PSP still has some nice games coming it’s way and the developers seem to have a nice hold of it’s technology. The package I purchased came with Daxter, a Family Guy UMD and a 1GB Memory Stick. It’s still a bit pricey but I would never trade that for a DS Lite, despite the price difference, I want some serious gaming on my handheld, otherwise I’d rather just play with what’s on my phone.

Just in case you’re still wandering, the new PSP is slimmer and lighter. It has apparently a brighter screen, and thanks to a decision made by Sony, all PSPs will be able to access the whole processing power of the device. This way developers will be able to push the games a little further.

A new trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has been released for the Tokyo Game Show. I think this trailer is the most interesting one to have come out so far. We got an impressive look at the gameplay and recognized Kojima style pretty fast. I could say this trailer is a kind of a “proof of concept” where the cinematics and in-game are void of transition. The cinematic effect is perfect and the improvements from PS2 to PS3 are breathtaking.

Follow this link to GameTrailers.com where you can see the latest trailer and all the previous trailers. MGS4 is considered a system seller and it is definetly one! TGS is one of the last big events before the launch of the PS3 this November. No matter how great I believe their console to be they will have a lot of work on their hands to catch up with Xbox 360 and compete with the cheap Nintendo Wii.

March, I just realized today that this month means so much for me. This year in particular I believe the is a lot to expect from a month who takes origin after the god of war. So here is my personnal guide to what is so good with this month in particular.

First of all, the month started with my one week spring break! I had some time to take some pressure off and prepare some school stuff that were already late. The month of March is a birthday month among my relatives, some how there is at least a dozen birthdays. Unfortunately they are not associated with any parties so the point is just to wish them happy birthday and know they are spending an extra year with us.

For a more commercial approach I have to mention the release of my long awaited Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, it might be the subject I’ve blogged the most about. I did receive the bonus disc for my pre-order witch is great and have to wait four more days to get my hands on this little baby and revisit MGS3 and get a shot at the praised online gaming mode. In addition, This re-edition of the game will include the original MG1 and 2 that were released on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Movie buff that I am, I’ll also mention the release of V for Vendetta, a futuristic vision of the future brought to life by the brothers how transformed the world with the Matrix trilogy. It hits theaters March 17, 2006.

You might not find it much to expect, but also consider that spring is coming and we’ll all enjoy some nice weather

I’m huge fan of the Metal Gear series, I’ve mentioned the series in the blog before and I have grim news for the fans out there. I’ve been hyped about getting this recut of the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater that was to my opinion the best of the series. But a wild set of circumstances are clouding my serenity. The limited edition, that is supposed to include a third disc that reprise the game’s action like a hole 3-hours movie cut. It was also announced that all pre-orders of any of the Metal Gear Solid release to come on March 14th, 2006 would also get Metal Gear Saga, a documentary DVD featuring Hideo Kojima doing a fine recap of the series up to now.

The real problem is that the limited edition seemed to be unavailable to Canadian customers. So even if EB Games had listed the limited edition on their websites, their retail stores in Canada were not going to get it. It’s still not confirmed and we still can’t have the final word on the subject but the Saga DVD should be shipped this week and all who had pre-ordered should be able to get the free bonus. As for the limited edition it went out of stock from their websites in about one week (or two). The extreme lack of communication between EB Games, it’s employee and customers is causing major headaches for Canadian who did not buy from the EB Games website. Let’s just mention that EB Games sells in US dollars and asks a shipping price of $14.99 US, you have to be prepared for sales tax and customs in some cases… Anyway the picture of Snake wearing the US flag face paint is appropriate to the situation of this games release. I know it’s supposed to be a limited edition, but if there is 2,000 pre-orders they should at least make that much and have the real limited number slated for after the release. If people are willing to buy, you must be willing to sell.

I still have high expectations to the release of this complete version of MGS3 called Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. It will update the experience you had with Snake Eater by giving you extra camouflage, 3rd person camera view, online mode, demo theater, original Metal Gear 1 and 2 Nintendo Games. Great gift for your action loving friends, that expect a high quality story telling and impressive use of the PS2 gaming console.
*Update on release*: Official word from EB Games is that the LE is US only
release.

Rumors do say that a very few number of people received the LE by keeping their original pre-orders. Nothing is confirmed, but from what reviews can tell, we are not missing out a lot without the 3rd disc.

*Update* The limited edition is a US release only.

For all pre-orders of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence you will get this exclusive DVD recalling the MG Saga. This indepth documentary revisits games from the original Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid SnakeAs stated in a previous post MGS 3.5 is a remake of the hit game MGS3: Snake Eater that came out in 2004. You basically have the original game with added content such has additional camouflage and face paint. The newest feature will the 3rd person camera which will let you control the viewing angle of your character. I believe this feature is not enough to buy the game if you have the original. But hopefully this is not the only thing included in MGS 3.5 (Subsistence)! It includes a second disc called Persistence which will feature online gaming, a first for the Metal Gear series. The only mode will feature game styles that resemble Deathmatch, Capture the flag (I mean Frog), Assault. This second disc will mostly support one against all mode, team fight strategy and free-4-all killing :p . The first disc will let you fight boss from the original game, more Ape Escape stages, and a Demo theater featuring funny videos made by the production team.

But why stop there? We’ll be blessed with a limited edition containing a third disc called Existence. This added bonus will feature a full director’s cut of the game in a movie like style. So for those who never finished the game or just want to watch all the action over again, you sit tight and watch the whole game. You’ll tell me what’s the point? Well this mean you can show your friends how great the game is and how fantastic the story line is.

If you add it up, a fan like me will try to get a hold of all 4 discs (if you include the Saga vol. 1 DVD with pre-orders) as soon as possible. I did mention in a previous post that a version would come with a USB headset bundled with it. Can’t wait for all the hype, it’s going to be fun! Don’t know the price yet, I’ll have to pre-order soon. The game is due March 14, 2006.

This game will be an upgrade of the previous title Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. They will also make a bundle with a USB headset.

The Metal Gear Solid series is the best I’ve ever been given to play in my life. Go check previous post on the next installement of the series: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

I might be selling my own copy of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, still thinking about it. The bundle that might be out for mid November will be pricey. If you’re interested let me no, and we’ll see.
