Welcome to a 2008 movie I’ve missed, and I am glad to have now seen. This movie falls in the category of remakes from the same family as War of the Worlds. A fresh look at a great science fiction story. Keanu Reeves, plays the avatar to an alliance of alien races that think we’re killing this planet (wich we totally are doing). He attemps to communicate to the world a message of salvation hoping they will listen, however he is quickly shown that goverment, army and people in general are just hostile towards what they don’t understand.

Our first interaction with him is a bullet to the chest. Aside from character development and that annoying kid that I loved to hate, the movie shows off how cool aliens can be, unclear of what technology they might be using. Indicating how out of reach they are, and how miserable we truly are in the grand scheme of things. Sadly, the movie fails at having the message come across to the general public. As shown in this poster, what I’ve liked the best about the movie was how bad ass the giant “robot” was. The Day the Earth Stood Still is a clever reference to how the movie ends, but you should go read 13 WTF Moments From ‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’ Remake that demonstrates many confusing and geeksome moments of the movie. [Spoilers] It’s clear that Jaden Smith doesn’t want to be a cute little kid as seen in The Pursuit of Happiness, I would of smacked him multiple times during the movie. I even dared to say that if he were to die during the movie Klattu should NOT revive him. If he wants to save the Earth he should start by getting rid of that one first. I digress, I love kids in general!

Jeff Cannata, Dan Trachtenberg and Alex Albertch bring you the latest news, reviews and previews from movies, video games, comics, television and all things rad. Their adventure started in March 2007 and they’ve hosted 60 episodes so far. The show comes out on a weekly basis and thanks to Revision3′s distribution methods it’s available in a wide range of formats and devices. Whether you have a cellphone, an iPod or a computer you can download a new episode is available every Tuesday for free. They have their own website with a weekly poll tied to the show and they aggregate various news stories so you can keep up with the ever changing world.

The original idea of the show is like the one of friends having a “couch discussion”, only they wanted to add a little more by filming in front of a green screen where they can have different contextual background and where Steve, the editor, can insert graphics and comments related to the discussion at hand.

This show is pretty much about all the stuff I like and talk about on this blog, a few times I’ve mentioned TRS (Totally Rad Show) with my reviews of Cloverfield and Shaolin Soccer. This show is one of the best you can watch on the web.

The best way to experience the show is to have a quick look at it, here is their latest release. You can visit their show page to access the various formats to download or to stream it.

I might be a cynic to call this movie unbelieveable, but Untraceable is really a quick forgetable movie that you might appreciate if you can enjoy mild torture and twisted logic of both heroes and villains of the story.

The idea is simple, someone put up a website called KillWithMe where he streams over the Internet the slow death of a victim. The twist is that it’s actually the viewers that kill because the death is initiated by the viewing of the website. The more people that log on to see the torture, the faster the murder occurs. You would think that since the murderer is annonymous at the beginning and seems to know quite alot about how the FBI agents function there would be a big twist reveal of his identity. I guess they got bored with the mystery and decided to place the movie with an other direction where the bad guy decides to stalk and attack the lead investigator in the case.

The movie ends like a car crash with no clear resolution. Aside the conclusion that a lot of people on the Internet are cluless and very gullable. There are some really annoying product placement like Windows Vista being used on every computer and where every window looks like it’s a media player one. On Star joins the fun but proves that somehow a skilled hacker could break into your cars computer, lock you in and threaten your life. None the less, it’s not a boring movie, things are happening and you have the kind of involvement when you keep telling yourself why didn’t she do this or that.

Wait for it to go on TV, it might be worth it then. 6 out of 10 –

A while back I got pretty excited when I saw the trailer for The Forbidden Kingdom. I was sure this movie would spike my interest, and I can say it delivered all I was expecting. The movie was released today and instead of reading my review you should go out tonight and see it. It’s a kung-fu movie with a fun story line, predictable you might say, but still very much satisfying. Jet Li and Jackie Chan are not enemies but they do get their fair screen time fighting each other in different styles. The Forbidden Kingdom will swept you off your feet and bring you to this magical world. This young teen from Boston is a fan of kung-fu movies and spends way to much time in a pawn shop in China Town. Through very dramatic events he is thrown into an other world where his mission is to return his staff to the Monkey King of legend and end the tyranny of the an evil warlord. I feel like I want to see it again, I get that feeling only from great movies! Trailer is after the jump and pictures.
